The Pleasant Grove City Park, located across the street from City Hall, is maintained by the Public Works department employees. The park has several covered pavilions for picnics or parties that are available for use by anyone visiting the park. There are also two fenced pavilions available for rental to Pleasant Grove residents only, March 1st through October 31st. A basketball court and tennis courts are located in the City Park. Please see the Pavilion Rental Rules and Regulations on the website for rates.
The Pleasant Grove Community Center is available for rental by Pleasant Grove residents for “not for profit” activities such as showers, teas, family reunions, etc. The Community Center Rules and Regulations and a copy of the Community Center Use of Facilities rental agreement can be found on the website.
We are proud of the city’s youth sports facilities. The Softball Complex located across the street from the middle school is dedicated entirely to Pleasant Grove High School Softball. The Pleasant Grove Athletic Complex is home to Pleasant Grove High School Baseball, three youth baseball fields, two youth softball fields, soccer and football fields and a walking track for use by our residents. The sports facilities are leased to the Jefferson County Board of Education and the various youth sports programs and are under the direction of the Park and Recreation Board. Our sincere appreciation to the many dedicated volunteers who participate in the youth programs and whose hard work through the years have made these facilities second to none.
PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
The Park and Recreation Board meets on the last Monday night of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. This is an advisory board to the youth athletic organizations that assists with the development of policy and by-laws. Members are appointed by the City Council:
Dickie Ragland, Chairman
Pleasant Grove Parks, Public Works and Building Inspections Departments
Doug Hyche, Building Inspections Officer - (205) 744-1726
Grass growing season is here and we are receiving numerous complaints regarding overgrown yards. Ordinance #365 prohibits the overgrowth of grass and weeds on residential property. Let’s all work together to keep Pleasant Grove beautiful by keeping lawns mowed, shrubbery trimmed and disabled vehicles, debris and discarded items out of the yard. Also, it is imperative that residents and lawn maintenance employees not blow grass clippings into gutters or roadways or dump clippings and limbs on vacant property. Collection boxes need to remain open and drains working properly to prevent flooding.
The Community Center and Park Pavilions I and II are available for rental to Pleasant Grove residents. The rental fee for the Community Center is $100.00 for four hours. Park Pavilions I and II are available for rental March 1st through October 31st. Pavilion I rents for $30.00 for the day and Pavilion II rents for $15.00. The other pavilions are available on a first come basis, no reservations, no fee. Park hours are 5:00 a.m. until dark. Call (205) 744-1726 for reservations.
We have several new homes and renovations under construction in the city. Remember that obtaining a building permit gives you legal permission to start a project in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. Ask your contractor if they have obtained a permit before allowing work to begin. Some common projects requiring permits are new building, room additions, renovations, decks, fences, fireplaces, pools, water heaters, garage and basement conversions, kitchen and bath expansions, reroofing, electrical and plumbing or HVAC systems. Make sure the companies you do business with are licensed with the City of Pleasant Grove.
Remember pet owners, Ordinance #215 provides for the restraint and control of dogs at all times. We need your help with this problem as we receive many calls concerning dogs running at large in the neighborhoods.
