A Word from the Mayor:

Summer time has already brought us the temperatures that go along with it. Let me share with you to please be safe and careful while your are enjoying these summer days.

On April 30, 2008, Latham and Associates, along with Principal Byram, of Pleasant Grove High School, Dr. Phil Hammonds with the Board of Education and many other guest were present for the 2008 Groundbreaking Event with our new high school. This is an exciting time in our community with a new high school presently under construction. Let me thank everyone who took part in the groundbreaking ceremony. On May 22nd I was honored to be a part of the 2008 Graduation Class of Pleasant Grove High School. Graduation was held at the Alabama Theater with 154 graduates. Thank you students and parents accomplishing this goal for your future. This is the first step towards your new future. Make it count! I would like to personally congratulate Principal Byram on being named the 2008 Principal of the Year. Mr. Byram taught at Pleasant Grove High School from 1992 to 1997. He has been in education for twenty-five years. Again, thank you along with your staff and PTA for continuing to make a difference in our community and in our state. I would like to also congratulate Coach Hyde, Coach Hays and the Spartan Softball Team for winning the County Tournament. These young ladies are hard working and committed to being winners. Your work has paid off. You may visit our web site to receive information about our city and the events surrounding our community by logging onto: www.cityofpg.com or you may visit the high school’s webpage at: pgspartans.com

City Hall continues to move forward and in doing so we have a lot to be proud of. Our library has one of the most informative libraries west of Birmingham. Donna Sartain, Debbie Jones and Mary Hereford have worked to accomplish the success of having the information you need at your fingertips with the wireless internet. If you have not visited our library, take time this summer to come by and see what they have to offer.

First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove has called a new Pastor to serve and I would like to welcome Pator Devan Watkins and his family, wife Jane Ellen (Tilford) Watkins and their two children, Molly and Nathan. They have moved to Pleasant Grove from Kentucky. His first Sunday was June 15, 2008.
