WAYNE BYRAM, PRINCIPAL OF PLEASANT GROVE HIGH SCHOOL NAMED
PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR
At the Jefferson
County PTA Banquet, Mr. Wayne Byram, Principal of Pleasant
Grove High School, was named PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR. Dr. Hammonds
presented this award. Carol Woods, PTA President of Pleasant Grove
High School said, "Mr. Byram is
always
there for the PTA. He is a strong advocate for the students. He
works hand in hand with the school and the community. Mr. Byram
goes out of his way to help each student be the best they can be."
Mr. Byram is also a resident of Pleasant Grove and is actively
involved in his school and community. He attends Pleasant Grove
United Methodist Church. His wife, Mary and their three children,
Kevin, Seth and Meredith are all very proud of him.
Mr. Byram taught at Pleasant Grove High School from 1992 to 1997.
He then went to Rudd Middle School as Assistant Principal. He came
back to Pleasant Grove High School as Principal and has been there
six years. He has been in education for twenty-five years.
Mr. Byram is a father figure to many of the students. He often has
students who he has taught or been a Principal to come back and
visit him and let him know what they've done with their life. He
has an "open door policy" and students know they can come and talk
to him with a problem or with something good that has happened in
their life.
Mr. Byram is a huge supporter of the PTA. He attends local meetings
and meetings downtown Birmingham. If there is ever anything the PTA
needs of him, he is willing to give. Mr. Byram always receives the
GOLDEN APPLE AWARD for having 100% of his faculty join the PTA.
He is very excited about the high school for what it will mean to
the community and to the kids who will attend P.G. H. S. He tries
to make a personal contact to when a student is out hospitalization
or with a serious illness or death of a family member.
