Police and Fire Department News
Chief Bill Waites
Director of Public Safety
The fall season brings many changes. We are back on standard time, and the
days continue to grow shorter. Colder temperatures are inevitable. Please be
sure your home’s heating system is in good working order. If you use
electric space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from flammable
objects such as furniture, draperies and bedding. Now is a good time to
change the battery in your smoke detector(s). If you need help with this,
contact the fire department.
Holiday decorations are now safer than ever, with most using flame resistant
materials and cool to the touch lights. Some older decorations may contain
bulbs that get hot. Any light bulb that is too hot to hold is capable of
starting a fire. If you still use any of these decorations, be sure to keep
them from coming in contact with any combustible material.
Don’t become a victim of crime during this holiday season. Be aware of your
surroundings while out
shopping. Park close to stores and only in well lit areas. Do not leave
valuables in sight in your car, place them in the trunk. Watch for
suspicious activity in your neighborhood. If you see something that does not
look right, notify the police department.
On behalf of all of your police officers and firefighters, I wish for you
and your family a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.
